WHO WE ARE

FREETOWN CHURCH OF CHRIST

IS SIMPLY A CONGREGATION OF CHRISTIANS.

We are not a domination for we have not called ourselves by any human name, creed, ordinance, or discipline that would seperate us from other Christians. We are Christians only!

Acts 11:26   -   Acts 26:28   -   1 Peter 4:16

IS SIMPLY A CHURCH OF CHRIST.

The church of Christ was establish on the day of Pentecost, following the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our history is recorded in Acts, Chapter 2.

Matthew 16:16-18   -  Luke 24:44-49   -   Acts 8:1   -   Romans 16:16

HAS NO HEAD BUT CHRIST.

Jesus Christ is the solitary head of His church. His authority is absolute, and it has not been delegated to any man or group of men on earth.
Matthew 28:18   -   Acts 2:36  -   Ephesians 1:22-23   -   Colossians 1:18

HAS NO BOOK BUT THE BIBLE.

We accept the Bible as the inspired Word of God. The Bible is our only and all sufficient rule of faith and practice. In His Word, Christ revealed His will for the church and we have no right to disregard His instruction.

Romans 1:16-17   -   1 Corinthians 14:37   -   2 Timothy 3:14-17

HAS NO PLEA BUT THE GOSPEL.

The Gospel of Christ in men's hearts is the power of God unto salvation. The word of God must be taught without addition or subtraction. This is our purposes - the preaching of God's Word.

Acts 2:36-42   -   Acts 8:35-19   -   Romans 1:16   -   Galatians 1:6-9   -   Hebrews 11:6   -   2 Peter 1:5-11   -   Revelation 2:10

AIMS TO RESTORE NEW TESTAMENT ORDER.

It is our purpose to recognize Christ as THE authority, to attain unity of all followers of Christ and to evangelize the world for Christ. To do this, we must return to the apostolic order as revealed in the Word of God. This means that we must go back in history further than Protestantism and Catholicism and restore the church to the divine pattern reveled by Christ and maintained by the apostles.

John 17:20 -21   -   Hebrews 12:2   -   Jude 3   -   Revelations 22:18-19

FOLLOWS THE NEW TESTAMENT ORDINANCES.

We practice the New Testament ordinances for the church, which are two... Baptism and the Lord's Supper.

We practice the New Testament pattern of baptism, the immersion of a penitent believer in Christ Jesus into a watery grace for the remission (forgiveness) of sin and for admission in the body of Christ.

Mark 16:16 - John 3:5-6 - Acts 2:38 - Galatians 3:27 - 1 Peter 3:20-21

We practice the New Testament pattern of remembering the Lord by observing the Lord's Supper each first day of the week.

Luke 22:19-20 - Acts 20:7 - 1 Corinthians 11:23-31
